Important Notes

Because I know some of you young hipsters just want to get right to flashing and not read through all of the KNOWN BUGS (though you REALLY SHOULD), I've consolidated some important things to remember.

  1. DON'T USE KOUSH'S BOOTSTRAP - we provide our own copy of clockwork recovery that can be accessed by holding power, selecting reboot → recovery. Koush's bootstrap interferes with that.
  2. DON'T USE ROM MANAGER - rom manager is unpredictable with our recovery system
  3. ON INSTALL YOU DO NOT NEED TO MOUNT SYSTEM MANUALLY - although it won't hurt, my install script automagickally does everything for you
  4. FULL FACTORY RESET IS REQUIRED - blur-related data mixing with aosp is a no-no, so wipe data before you restart
  5. THIS IS IN BETA - remember that. there WILL be bugs and i cannot guarantee that this will be ready for daily use yet. just keep your wits about you and enjoy.
  6. RECOVERY DOESN'T WANT TO BOOT - read more under KNOWN BUGS for info on this

I will keep this updated with any other questions people have.

Known Issues

Running Koush's Bootstrap Recovery Destroys Boot Sequence

THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT SO BE CERTAIN YOU READ IT: Koush's Bootstrap Recovery utilizes a similar hijacking mechanism to what tanzanite does. For this reason, if you bootstrap the recovery after installing tanzanite, you will effectively overwrite the hijacking scripts that tanzanite uses to boot RENDERING YOUR DEVICE UNABLE TO BOOT INTO OBSIDIAN.

Tanzanite for this purpose comes with its own copy of CW recovery already installed. In order to reach it, you can simply long-press the power button to bring up the options menu, and then select “Reboot” → “Recovery”. The system will detect that you are running a device that requires a hijacked recovery and boot it accordingly.

Not recommended for use with ROM MANAGER

For the time being, using Rom Manager is unsupported and on a “USE AT YOUR OWN RISK” basis. I have not gotten a chance to discuss with Koush how RM deals with hijacked devices, and therefore it probably will not detect the preinstalled CW recovery that is required for this rom to function properly.

Video doesn't work

For reasons that need to be investigated, when an attempt is made at playing a video, the media server crashes and hence the video does not play. It appears to be related to audio, but needs to be looked into. For this reason video through gallery or youtube does not work.

Pin-point GPS doesn't work

Network-based GPS works (fuzzy-gps) and is accurate to approximately 20 meters. However, pin-point gps or true gps is not currently functioning. It is being looked into.

Camera/Camcorder do not work

The Camera freezes and ultimately crashes if you attempt to take a photo with it. The camcorder will crash as soon as you turn it on. These are being looked into as well.

Provided recovery does not want to boot

There seems to be some issues with tanzanite booting into the provided recovery. Do not fear, this is not and insurmountable problem, but does pose a problem. For the time being, if you find you want to go back to another ROM, go ahead and use Koush's Bootstrap (yes I did say that). Keep in mind though that you MUST have the proper nandroid and/or update.zip files on your system because once you bootstrap into koush's recovery you will NOT be able to get back into the core ROM or reboot into recovery again should your system shut off.

In other words, use Koush's Bootstrap to get back into recovery if/when you're ready to install another ROM or restore a backup, but make sure you have enough battery life as well as the required files available to complete the process.

I will be working on an update to fix this in the future. I apologize for not noticing this problem.
